Vacationing With A Difference In Gatlinburg

By Matt Lewison

It is time for festivities at Gatlinburg, TN, the Smoky Mountain resort town, as the residents commemorate their Appalachian heritage. A number of special events have been planned for this occasion and these include street shows centering on life in the Smokies. During these events, Gatlinburg is now holding its 6th annual Smoky Mountain Tunes and Tales.

The Event

The Smoky Mountain Tunes and Tales is going to be held until mid August in this beautiful town. This celebration will be spread over eight weeks during this time. Costumed performers, musicians and also story tellers will all participate in this event. As outlined by a news report on Knox News, you can also find artisans representing the life of those who lived here back in the 1800s.

Schedule

The festival will be held along the Parkway. Residents and tourists can enjoy the performances from 6 pm to 11 pm each evening through the eight week long Tunes and Tales festival. If you're in Gatlinburg during this time, you might get to see as many as 14 acts in one evening. These acts will be provided without charge to the public. Sources in the Gatlinburg Department of Tourism, which is organizing the event, explain that a rotating cast of 20 acts will be presented during this event. This cast consists of crafter's as well as musicians and storytellers. For people with a keen ear for music, Gatlinburg is a fantastic place to be throughout the Appalachian heritage festival. Soulful traditional mountain music will soothe away cares while you take a stroll through the serene greenery of the small town. If bluegrass is your desire, you'll undoubtedly enjoy the night bands performing traditional bluegrass standards.

Vacationing with a Difference

According to Tourism Director David Perella, the events are tailored for promoting Gatlinburg as a holiday destination with a distinction. The tourism department intends to achieve this by showcasing the specialties of this town and also by bringing the spotlight on the uniqueness of Gatlinburg. Since Gatlinburg is close to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, it is in the perfect location to draw in visitors going to the mountains here. Actually, Gatlinburg has already been quite the preferred holiday spot for many tourists because it's a green destination right in nature's lap, a refreshing change for anyone living in polluted metros.
