Minimizing the Cost of Hotel Accommodation When Traveling

By Max Fisher

Hotels and accommodation costs form a major part of your travel budget, even when you are planning a short trip away from home. When you are staying away from base for longer than a few days, it is probable that the accommodation costs are going to be the major expense you will have to come up with. Keeping the cost of your hotel and lodging to a minimum means you'll have more money available for other things when you are away, such as enjoying yourself.

Reducing the cost of accommodation and hotels does not mean you have to forgo quality though. Sure you can check into a cheaper hotel and put up with the antics of the kind of clientele which a flea pit may attract and produce some cost savings, but that is not what you really want to do.

What you are looking for is a way to improve the comfort and quality of your stay away from home AND reduce the cost of accommodation.

Many travelers, even the veteran explorers and globetrotters amongst you will not know that there is a way in which you can achieve lower costs and higher quality of accommodation - the answer is corporate housing.

Don't let the term "Corporate Housing" fool you - whilst apartments and housing for extended stays have traditionally been aimed at the business community, they are in no way restricted to business users. People who are seeking to travel and explore the world, or simply enjoy another city, are finding extended stay accommodation to be affordable and comfortable.

Extended stay accommodation works like this: a management company or property owner will provide short-term leases, ranging from as little as a week to several months. There is no long-term commitment to rent or lease a property, though the rent may be higher than you would be charged for a traditional arrangement.

A big plus is that extended stay accommodation is cheaper than staying in a hotel - even a low cost, budget motel will be much more expensive than an extended stay in corporate housing. In addition, you have all the comforts of home with a property which provides you with proper facilities only you will be using, such as laundry. You will also have more privacy and enjoy a fully-fitted kitchen; typically a garden and a swimming pool will be available too. You will also find corporate housing providers to be pet friendly and provide a wide range of ancillary services which you will not find at a hotel or at a fraction of the cost if you do.

Next time you are planning on spending any time away from home for longer than a week, look at corporate housing and what it can do for you. Extended stay housing is a home away from home, is far more comfortable to stay in and will cost you less than a low end flea pit motel.
