The Advantages Of Custom Fitting Golf Clubs

By Tom Doerr

A good thing about custom fitting is that the alterations can be done to one's existing golf clubs. Nowadays, many people are having their playing instruments custom fitted. The benefit in doing so is that any given player's style is taken into consideration. The adjustments are then made to best suit that person and thereby, improve their game.

The exact details of custom fitting revolve around personal swing styles as well as height and build. Professional players have been doing it for years already. During this time, manufacturers have also been improving the products sold to the general public. This has helped greatly, but the problem is that any general design is still a generic design, and cannot cater to one's exact style.

Custom fitting can be done at most pro shops, fitting centers, and specialist stores. What happens is that the person is made to hit a few balls. As he or she swings, a computer known as a launch monitor details and analyzes the swings.

After a while, the computer produces a reading that shows the person's swing style broken down. From there, the ideal instruments can be established. The computer even shows at what angles the heads of the instruments need to be to optimize the player's swing. The entire evaluation process takes under thirty minutes.

What is also discovered during the fitting are what clubs would be ideal for the player to purchase in the future. These are decided based on what most matches the player's style or covers an area of weakness.

There is no set price to having golf clubs custom fitted. It is case-dependant. Many stores will charge for the evaluation and modification process done when the player is using existing instruments. Often, though, there is no additional fee involved when dealing with new clubs. In this situation, the cost of the fitting is considered part of the price.
