How To Apply For An Expedited Stolen Passport Alternative

By Ben Pate

Finding out that your passport was stolen is a very bad thing to happen, especially if you are already set to travel. You look forward to leave in a month and then you find out that you cannot travel after all. Do not despair because there is something you can do about it. You can make an expedited stolen US online passport replacement.

Passports can be lost or stolen anytime. It is quite a common occurrence. Because of this, the State Department has set up ways to resolve this problem. What is good about the setup is that it only involves you. You do not need to hire lawyers or pay for affidavits to apply for a replacement. You will realize that replacing lost passports is not so difficult after all. However you will feel impatient because you know that you will be leaving in a few days and you want the process to finish quickly. A similar process can be followed when applying for a expedited United States passport name change.

Those who apply for replacement of lost or stolen passports are taken as first time applicants. In other words, they have to submit the requirements needed for a new application. You will be doing the same steps you did when you requested for your first passport.

The paperwork requested from you will consist of Form DS-11 or a new application for a U. S passport and Form DS-64 or statement regarding the loss of the document. The last document is something that you already have. It is your birth certificate.

The two government forms are freely obtainable at your city's post if not your public library. The same documents can be downloaded from the Internet. Just go to the website of the State Department for the exact download address.

After you have completed both forms, check your birth certificate. There was a ruling made on April 2011 that makes it a requirement for the presence of the complete names of your parents on the birth certificate. Aside from this, you have to make sure that there is a dry seal of the agency where this personal document came from.

Go and make a personal appearance to the nearest passport acceptance center. You will be asked a few questions and the documents that you brought will be examined. When everything passes, pay the processing fee. An expedited application for replacing the lost document costs more than a regular application. You will be paying for the transaction and the express handling by mail of your new set of papers.

Expedited processing for the replacement of lost passports takes at least three weeks to finish. After five to seven days of applying, you can check the processing status of the document online. You will be asked to enter your last name, your birthday, and the last four parts of your Social Security Number in order to view the status online.
